I Love California! Santa Barbara, Goleta, Montecito, Newport Beach, Corona del Mar, Laguna Beach... Heaven on Earth!
I love early morning and early evening sunshine. It gives a "honey kissed" look that's created some of my best photography!
I love dogs.
Asleep at the Wheel is one of my favorite bands.
Chicken and dumplings is my favorite meal.
Blue is my favorite color.
My twin brother's name is Aaron.
My Grandfather flew B-29s during WWII.
I was born and raised in Texas. The people, water, beaches, countryside, and the million colors of the sky are vibrant memories. It is these memories that guide me along my path throughout the United States in search of similar settings where I can now capture the beauty with my camera.
After buying my first DSLR I realized my studio needed a printer capable of outputting shots large enough to recreate the experiences seen through my camera lens. Large format printing quickly became my passion. And lucky for me, my prints have been enjoyed by many happy clients. I have dreamed about being a professional photographer, but seeing how people react to my work has taken me by surprise. It is a humbling experience and I love being able to create stuff that people love to have in their homes and offices.
Here's a little bit more about what I do and how I do it. Some of this might be boring to you, but I get so many questions I thought I would share my tricks with hope that I might be able to help others make pretty pictures:
My gear: I shoot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera and capture both still photos and HD video. I use the following lenses: Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM, and the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM (Click on the camera and lens images below to be taken directly to the Canon USA web page to learn more).
Of course I have protective filters, polarizing filters, high speed compact flash cards, and tripods, but the 5D and the lenses do all the heavy lifting! The real secret to great photography is that even the best shots are not frame ready right out of the camera. After I shoot I upload all my images to Adobe Lightroom where I begin my post-processing using program features along with Nik Software and onOne Software plug-ins that yield the best images possible.
All photographs need post processing!
When done editing I usually share the shots online at ChristopherKing.com or Flickr. I really like to print my absolute best shots on luster or metallic paper in large format (16x20" up to 48x24") using my Epson Stylus Pro 7880 printer.
Workflow: Shoot in RAW > Upload to Mac > Basic image edits in Adobe Lightroom 4 (noise reduction is awesome) > Send to Photoshop CC for Nik Software edits > Sharpener Pro RAW Presharpening > Viveza for selective color and light adjustments > Color Efex Pro Tonal Contrast filter (this is the secret weapon!) > Sharpener Pro Output Sharpening > onOne Perfect Resize for final image enlargement.
